As a Jewish woman, I was mystified by Whoopi Goldberg's suspension. To me, she offered a terrific model of handling backlash well. She said something that triggered many people, learned more about the subject, and made a gracious apology from which we all could learn.

If we saw more examples of this sort, the quality of our public discourse would improve.
